PROTARAS
Introduction
Protaras is a family oriented resort situated on the east coast of Cyprus. It is
about ten minutes away by car from Aiya Napa. The coach transfer from Larnaca
International airport takes about 45 minutes. The resort consists of one main
road where most of the hotels and restaurants are situated and is commonly
referred to as the Main Strip. It takes about 15-20 minutes to walk from one end
of the strip to the other.
Pubs
There are various themed pubs like Cheers, Friends, Only Fools and Horses, The
Flintstones and so on. There is also a magic dancing waters and laser show that
takes place at 9.00pm every night. You can enjoy the show while trying the
various cocktails available there. A pub called Flora serves cocktails all day
for £1.00 only!
Beaches
The most famous beach in Protaras is the Fig Tree Bay which has a golden sandy
beach and clear waters. You can actually see the fishes swim near your legs!
There are plenty of water sports to try. Sun loungers and umbrellas are
available for hire. There are other two beaches but not as clear and golden as
Fig Tree Bay.
Restaurants
Fancy freshly grilled fish in one an open-air seafood restaurant or Thai,
Italian, Indian or even Mexican? You wont have to walk very far! All these
restaurants are situated on the main strip. There are other restaurants away
from the strip such as The Anatolia which are also worth trying. Protaras also
offers a good choice of taverns if you fancy trying the Cypriot Meze. Be warned
though a full Meze consists of 24 different varieties of food!! For those that
need them there is a McDonald & a Pizza Hut too.
Excursions
There are various car hire places that can arrange half & full day excursions.
The jeep safari to the Troodos mountains is a must! This safari gives you the
opportunity to explore the Troodos area of Cyprus. Other excursions include
trips to Nicosia (the capital city), Famagusta (also called the Ghost Town) and
even a 2/3 day trip to Egypt.
